Abstract

Pure motor monoplegia is characterized by motor involvement limited to one limb without sensory deficit. The symptom is relatively rare in cerebrovascular disease and clinicians are liable to make a wrong diagnosis as peripheral nerve lesion. Recently we experienced one pateint with small cortical infarction who presented with pure motor monoplegia : wrist drop and distal weakness of upper extremity. In this case, the lesion was not detected definitely by brain computed tomography (B-CT), but was seen by brain magnetic resonance imaging (B-MRI). We recommend MRI should take into consideration in the evaluation of patients with sudden onset monoparesis.
